Around the full moon in June and July thousands of grouper congregate on the remote coral atolls in French Polynesia. These large fish all try to carve out small territories that they will defend until they spawn en masse at night. The only problem is that these reefs are already covered in huge masses of fish like the soldierfish surrounding the grouper.

Protecting Biodiversity

Our ocean is home to an incredible diversity of life. It feeds billions and supports cultures and livelihoods around the world.

But our ocean’s bounty is under threat–from industry, overfishing, plastic and climate change. Ocean Conservancy works in partnership with Indigenous and local communities to ensure that the ocean and the people who rely on it can thrive for generations to come.

Arctic & Northern Waters

Protecting the Arctic, which is warming 4 times faster than the rest of the world

We partner with Indigenous Peoples to protect this critical area’s role in local livelihoods and our global climate.
